Nordic skates do get dull over time, and shap skate blades greatly enhances your skating experience. Edges of the blades are ment to be kept strictly at right angle. When skates are kept in parallel, on the same level this ensures a good sharpening result.
Jig or jigs are needed to keep Nordic Skates in parallel when sharpening with a wetstone or diamond-stone. Jigs keep the skates strictly vertical, side by side and with a minimal wiggle from sharpening moves. These are now made in a mix of nylon and carbon.
